For the remaining three weeks of the rotation, you can either work on making a radio or work on creating a Rube Goldberg device. Here are some videos so you can get an idea or what is involved in each
BE SURE TO READ THE INFO BELOW BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEOS.
Rube Goldberg Devices
A Rube Goldberg device is a contraption that is over-engineered on
purpose to achieve a very simple task through a chain reaction. Rube
Goldberg machines contain lots of important science ideas.
The next two videos are very complicated, professionally done Rube Goldbergs - yours need only be 4 to 6 steps. The end result is a simple task such as turning on a light switch, working a stapler, clicking a pen, etc. I have dominoes and some foam chutes for you to experiement with as you develop your Device.
Here's a video of a Honda Commercial featuring a Rube Goldberg machine.
Here's a video showing a complicated
Rube Goldberg made by the band OK Go and engineers from Syyn Labs, a
Log Angeles based arts and technology collective..
Here's a video of the Rube-Goldberg based Game Mousetrap.
The Challenge: Can you design and build a Rube Goldberg machine that completes a simple task?
A foxhole radio
In World War II, soldiers would make a simple radio out of odds and ends that they were able to find, called a foxhole radio. Here is a link to a video that shows how to make a foxhole radio.
Let me know if you want to do this - I will have to order the earphone.
